ok don't anyone get their panties in a wad over this. I love bush bangers and just wanted to start a thread bout it. If the flaming gets to much i am sure our frendly mods will stop it. ONe of the many things i don't like about bush is his CRAZY buget. I asked one of our states reps what he tought about it and this is exactly what he sadi "Not much to be honest." and that is exactly what i think. A friend recentaly told me that with the money spent on the war we could have paid back much of our debt and put a clean well in every city in africa so that they would have clean water. Now u tell me what is better for the world the war or clean water for africa? Feel free to throw in your 2 cents but it is likely that if it is in suspport of bush i will fight it no matter how wrong i am thats just the way i am have fun jsut don't flame to much.

As a Canadian, I have a serious beef with the man. You see, I'm of the belief that if one wishes to ignore us, they can go ahead and do so... but if they do this, they shouldn't do things to piss us off and continue to ignore us as if nothing has happened. I won't pass judgement on his domestic and foreign policies (except those that deal with Canada).

I'm not sure if you know about the Missile Defence Issue (I'm in at least partial support of it), the Mad Cow Crisis and the Softwood Lumber Dispute, but on each of these issues, Bush has not been... the most enjoyable person to work with, shall we say. Now I do credit Bush with eventually coming forward and putting his best foot forward on both Mad Cow and Missile Defence. In fact, when he did these things, he was raised a good couple notches in my books... but his lack of any form of forward movement over the Softwood Lumber Dispute is really getting under my skin.

I myself am firmly anti-Bush.

• First president in U.S. history to attack a sovereign nation against the will of the United Nations and the world community.

• Took the biggest world sympathy for the U.S. after 9/11, and in less than a year, made the U.S. the most resented country in the world.

• First U.S. president in history to have a majority of people in Europe (over 70%) view his presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

• In the 18 months following the 9/11 attacks, he has successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.

Being Dutch I've never been much of a fan of the United States but Bush takes the prize. Really, after 9/11 he basically threatened the world to help him in his war on Afghanistan's Taliban. He threatened us!

Now, a good amount of people will be able to ignore that fact, and scratch it off to shock and outrage due to 9/11, but seriously. I think even Iraq mourned that day. Since 9/11 this world has lived in fear, and for as far as I can see, a great part of this fear can be directly traces back to the Bush administration and their decisions.

What!!?? What country was it then that was shown on the news with the people dancing for joy in the streets because of the horrendous deaths of 3000 innocent people on 9-11??? The attacks on 9-11 were not just attacks on the US but also on all non-Muslim people.

As for the "statistics" posted earlier about the country going downhill in the first two years of the Bush administration. I heard on the radio (and so have no documentation) a rebuttal of this statement and that in fact the economic downswing was due to Clinton policies and that the effects carried over into the Bush era.

Those pictures I remember were from the occupied zones in Israel... although I assume that these same sort of praises would have been echoed throughout many countries in the Middle East.

Obviously we're going to see some bantering back and forth between Republicans and Democrats over some of these issues. The economic one seems to be the first. I suppose it could be either case, but we'd need to see some real evidence before making any concrete decisions

The job losses and stock market crash were directly attributable to 9/11. The recession began in the second quarter of 2001, and continued only one more quarter. GWB's first budget didn't take effect until October 1, 2001. So which presidency can claim the recession? Despite 9/11, the Bush tax cuts halted the recession and began a period of modest growth, that accellerated dramatically in 2003, and continues to this day. That continued growth in GDP is also a record.

Magus, the people who make over $200,000 a year carry the rest of us. That very small group of people pay around 95% of the tax burden in this country. Any tax cut of any amount is going to benefit the people who actually pay taxes. The original tax cut plan put forward by Pres. Bush would have meant that anyone who earned under $35000 per year would PAY NO INCOME TAXES AT ALL. That's pretty nasty to the working poor, isn't it? Yes, I'm being sarcastic. But class envy is a typical game played by the liberals, and I'm sick to death of it.

Magus, I'll also point out to you that the Bush tax cuts actually increased tax revenue. You'd know that if you paid attention to the news releases on such issues.

As for the war in Iraq, don't sit there and pretend it has not had any positive consequences. 40 million people have been spared life under a brutal dictator. What's that worth to you? I know you're sitting there all nice and safe and sound, with no responsibilities for your own keep at this point of your life, but how would you feel if it were one of your sisters or your mother in Saddam's rape rooms??? Wells in Africa, or freedom from oppression for Iraq? Go ahead and pick.

You are free to dislike GWB all you like, but at least try and learn a few facts first. And again, when you get to college, make sure and take economics. It'll be a real eye opener.

Oh, yeah. Clinton didn't have approval of the UN to attack Iraq, or Bosnia. So your facts are faulty there, too.

As for budgets, I'm darned sorry to see the Pres and Congress spending like drunken sailors. And it's not just war spending. It's across the board. That needs to be reined in. Of course, wait till you see everyone scream when it's their own pet program getting "Cut." (Note, budget cuts are never true cuts, just reductions in built in spending increases.)

As a representative of drunken sailors everywhere, I object to the last post. We resent the implication that we are debauched lushes like those people in Washington. Every drop of liquor we spend on money is worth it. And besides after six months at sea even Dick Cheney looks pretty sexy. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but it's true. So if you want to make derogatory remarks about the President and Congress, we think you should stick to comparing them to gluttonous pigs, and not besmirch the name of the ocean's finest.

As a fan of the "beep" Cheney fan club, I object to the last post. I don't think the moderators should change his first name to "beep" just because he has the misfortune to be named "beep." I mean, I think most of us are mature enough to know the difference between Big "Beep" Cheney and just a gratuitous and obscene reference to a big "beep."

You are free to dislike GWB all you like, but at least try and learn a few facts first. And again, when you get to college, make sure and take economics. It'll be a real eye opener.

Talk to any politician and they'll either talk about how good the President is for the economy, or how bad. Talk to any economist and they'll tell you two things...one, business runs in cycles. Two, the President has three and only three tools available to him to make major and meaningful changes to the economy...the Fed, Taxes, and War.

Bush tried to drop taxes and lower the Fed. That's all he could do. I personally don't care for his domestic policies, but I'm not going to blind myself to the facts either.

There's also the usual talk of the U.S. beating up on Canada. I think we talked this one to death in other topics, but every time it's brought up it reminds me of the Canadian CF-105 Avro Arrow incident.

For those that don't know, the Arrow was an advanced jet interceptor under development in the 1950's by Canada. The program was suddenly cancelled and all prototypes destroyed. The plane was so advanced, it's believed by aero experts that it could still make a fairly good accounting of it's self against the fighters of today.

At the time, Canadians cried foul as after the Arrow was cancelled, Canada bought jets manufactured by U.S. companies. Crying that the Canadian PM had sold out.

It was learned only recently that the Avro plant was riddled with Soviet spies. The U.S.S.R. was simply sitting back and letting Avro build their new jet interceptor for them.
