Depending upon your tastes in speculative topics, you should give it a try. The New (post-2005) DWs are much more accessible to the occasional viewer, and have much higher production values. The 1963 through 1985 stuff requires more suspension of disbelief, and frequently hard-core "completist" tendencies.
