Sadie

Post by fanuilh »

Sadie is still hanging in there. Hubby took her to the vet this morning for another blood test so we can see how she's doing. Last week's blood test was worse than I thought, I thought she was holding steady at least, but her PCV (packed cell volume) actually went down, which means her immune system is still attacking her bone marrow even with all the meds she's on. The Internal Medicine vet wants a PCV and a retic count (whatever that is) done this week, and according to Hubby he and our vet are communicating, so hopefully we'll get those tests done and get an idea how things are going. She finished her Calcafate, which was helping her intestines and such heal, is still on all the other stuff including Cyclosporine. Her appetite is good, although the IM vet says that's the prednisone. I don't care, I'm just glad she's eating. There was awhile there she wouldn't eat anything, and it's so frightening when they won't eat.

I hope she's going to be okay, I'm just afraid that we're seeing a downward spiral, just way slower than it was before.

She enjoys walking around the yard and barking at things, although she can't keep up with the other dogs and gets worn out quickly. Mostly she snoozes in the laundry room. The cats don't go in much anymore; they were going in and trying to get to her food and she snapped at them enough times that they've stopped going in at all. Well, sometimes Pumpkin hops in to snooze with her, but nobody bothers her food anymore. Which is just as well.

We're hoping for the best. I'm glad Chloe is getting better.

Nobody is starving in our house.

Here's Sylvester. Look at that gut. He didn't have it when he got here.

Here's Velma. The last time she was this fat, she was carrying kittens.

Here's Pumpkin snoozing, just because it's cute.

Those are some beautiful furbabies, fan. Thanks for sharing! I'd say put Sylvester in a box and send him to me, but my Coco would probably stay in a snit for a year for bringing in a strange cat, especially a male.

Sadie

Post by fanuilh »

Well, this isn't good news. I finally reached the Internal Medicine vet today after playing phone tag with him for two days. Sadie is not responding to the meds, her blood cell counts are down. She isn't failing as quickly as she was before the transfusions and meds, but she is failing. He asked me what my thoughts were on continuing. I told him I wasn't sure how much more we should put her through.

She's out of all the meds except Cyclosporine and Prednisone (both immunosuppressants). We won't be refilling the ones we're out of; they weren't working anyway. Neither are the ones she's on now, although they seem to be slowing things down a bit. Her appetite hasn't been good today but I don't know if that's a sign her condition is worsening or a mood swing.

We will continue to try to keep her comfortable for as long as we can and then when the time comes, we'll let her go.

He wants another blood test in two weeks. I guess we'll just have to see where we are then.

 Sadie couldn't have asked for better friends than you and your husband, fan. You've done everything humanly possible and then some. You and her are still in my prayers.
