As always there are a number of choices here. You can put up a fight, try to escape, try to bargain with the bandits or surrender. The choice is yours.

The bandits aren't really very succeptible to intimidation, as far as they're concerned the party is just another group of defenseless travellers that happens to have an eccentric mage with them. Plus they've made their camp in the mountains for years now without trouble so the beasts and things wandering around aren't much concern to them.

Of course they aren't impossible to intimidate, it's all a matter of pushing the right buttons. Think, what would a bandit be worried about?
