Ancient Darkness: The Darkened Road

Postby Magus » Sun Jul 10, 2005 8:43 am

***This is a continuation of the group who is currently in The Jaded Wayfarer Inn, at least as of this date.***

Midnight lead the others outside, not knowing very well if they would follow. But that would have to be their choice, she couldn't force anything from them.

She moved to the stables and secured her horse, a white steed with a light blue sheen. She mounted her horse and looked at the others.

"Shall we be off."

"Might as well, no reason to stay around here." Joachim said. He still wasn't sure why he was going with these people, afterall he had nothing in common with them. 'Well, might as well surrender myself to the tides of fate for the time being.' He thought.

Zane motioned to Blunt, and the large man nodded, heading for a stall at the back of the stables. Openeing the gates, he lead out two horses. They appeared well bred, but otherwise completely normal. One was a smaller racing style horse of a light gray, the other was a dull brown draft horse. It seemed the only breed large enough to carry Blunt.

"Is everyone ready?" Midnight ask softly. "Oh, no. What about that handsome Klundor fellow from the inn? Isn't he coming too?"

Daru followed the group to the dining room but stopped to retrieve what was left of his bottle of wine. He then follwed the group outside. All was on their horses. "Thank you for the compliment." He then whistled shrilly. A few moments later a black steed came trotting out. The saddle had very few bags and was black as well. The horse was born and bred for speed and was once wild. After patting the horse on the nose Daru mounted the horse and sat proudly waiting for the signal to ride.

Midnight smiled warmly and waited for him to mount. "So that's everyone, is it? We should be off then. It's a two day ride the way the crow flies where we go, three days the way the horse runs. I suggest that we get started with all due speed, although I see no special hurry." She broadened her smile. "Relax, the way is scenic and very beautiful."

Zane huffed slightly, putting on her ditzy act again for the benefit of the Klundor. She smiled and laughed hard, that horrible laugh, "So beautiful I assume...shall we be off to see it?"

Midnight gave Zane a knowing smile. "Yes, we shall. Besides, we should get a decent way ere nightfall." She whispered softly in her mount's ear and lightly tapped the stirrups. Without a great deal of either haste or leisure she set the pace of travel, purposeful yet not rushed.

Blunt picked Zane up and delicately set her on the smaller horse before mounting himself. He tapped the horse lightly with his heels, sending it into motion. Zane gave a shrill whistle and the horse laid back its ears in anger, then it began moving forwards.

Daru flicked the reigns and his mount went after at the same pace. As he rode he made a mental check of all the things he had done, this was definitely the most spontaneous. What was he thinking?

"I say we ride until noon." Midnight suggested. "We'll stop for a spell and have some lunch and then carry on until we stop at nightfall for dinner."

She smiled kindly at the others. "Worry not, I may have a limited array of provisions, but there is plenty enough food. And what they lack in variety they make up in substance. I have plenty of potatoes and bread, as well as some dried fruits and vegetables. There's even some wine, should any of you desire it."

"Oh goody, a picknick!" Zane squealled, causing her horse to shy and Blunt to grab its reins and calm it. After steadying it, he released the reins and geltly patted it on the rump to get it moving again.
