"How far is it to this place of yours?" Leon whined to Midnight.

Mina and her 'child' walked at a steady pace with the others.

Charley and Serisa stayed silent. Their walks seemed different though. Serisa was bouncing merrily while Charley seemed to be brooding. (Charley thought it was a waste of time to let new members into their group.)

"What's on your mind, kid?" Leon asked, drawing up alongside Charley and Serisa. He could tell something was weighing on the boy's thoughts.

"We are stopping to see the sights too often." Charley said glancing in Mina and Karuma's direction.

"Maybe sometimes the 'sights' are worth 'seeing'" Leon said. "But then again I can't say I blame you for being suspicious. Especially considering where we're going." He pulled his hand from his pocket clutching a small silver coin which he rolled between his fingers.

"In any case, we have nothing to go on but each others' word." He flipped the coin in the air and let it fall into his hand.

"Some do not deserve trust." Charley said coldly.

"And how do you devide who deserves to be trusted or not?" Leon said, flipping the coin again. "For all you know I could be waiting for the chance to stab you all in the back." He caught the coin, absent mindedly performing sleight of hand tricks with it, palming and handling it, making it disappear and reappear in his hand.

"The same could be said of you."

Charley smiled to himself and said nothing. He hardly trusted anyone because of his childhood but that was behind him. The truth was that mistrust was a habit for him now.

"But Charley doesn't carry around a knife. why would he want to stab anyone?" Serisa said in a confused tone. In wolf years, she was still a pup and did not understand many things.

"It's a figure of speech, kid." Leon said, patting her on the head.

Serisa blinked. "And was it a...'figure of speech' when you said you could stab someone in the back? I imagine being stabbed anywhere would hurt quite a bit. Why is it a 'figure of speech?'"

He considered for a moment how best to explain himself.

"It means that I could betray you. I could steal all your money during the night or lead you into an ambush. I'm not actually stabbing you in the back, you see?" He sighed, he was never very good at explaining such things.

Serisa blinked."You could have just said that in the first place."

Up ahead, Mina and Karuma walked side by side. Personally, Mina had no idea why the little demon insisted on following her. She thought back to the day they met...

***He was playing with a ball of fire he'd made.

"Why are you alone little boy?" she asked.

"A demon slayer came to my village..."the little demon said with a weak smile. Mina felt sorry for the little boy and pulled some bread from her pocket. She told him to take care and sped off. She forgot that fire demons were also very fast. When she stopped at a river to get a drink, the boy was right behind her.

"I don't have any more food for you." she said.

"I don't want food. Will you be my Momma?" he asked.

"I can't..."Mina said running off. Unfortunately, the little demon was determined.

He never left her side.
