Direct Linking using BB code:
phpBB BBCode incorporates a tag for including images in your posts. Two very important things to remember when using this tag are: many users do not appreciate lots of images being shown in posts and secondly the image you display must already be available on the internet (it cannot exist only on your computer for example, unless you run a webserver!). To display an image you must surround the URL pointing to the image with tags. For example:
As noted in the URL section above you can wrap an image in a [url][/url] tag if you wish, e.g.
Remote Linking using formatting toolbar (NOTE: Toolbar is only available in full editor, not when using quick reply.):
The editor panel can be used to help you insert images. The two most useful options are highlighted in this image:
The button on the left is essentially a helper for bbcode. It opens a dialog box where you can enter the URL to your image, then it inserts it with the correct bbcode for you.
The button on the right opens a small window so you can upload your image to Imageshack for free (you do not need to have an account to host images there). There is nothing special about Imageshack, it just so happens that this particular formatting toolbar has a special button to make it extra easy to use.
Uploading Images to Our Server as an Attachment
When using the full post editor (not quick post), you can attach your images to your post by uploading them as an attachment. This takes more steps than remote linking, and even we often use Imageshack or some other service because they are so convenient. You can include up to 6 attachments per message, but please note that attachments are limited to 256kb each. If you need to show a picture bigger than that you must use a third party service.
How to add an attachment:
- At the bottom of the window select the "Upload Attachment" tab show below:
- Click the "Browse" button to locate your image on your hard drive. You can add a comment if you like. Click the "Add the File" button to complete the upload.:
- Insert the image wherever you want it to appear in your message by placing the cursor at that location and clicking the "Place Inline" button by the filename listed at the bottom of your posting screen. Notice that you can also delete your attachment if you decide you don't need it.
