Zeal

Zeal. The woman with long white hair looked up at the towering structure. It reached far into the cloudless sky, the single needle marring the vast tapestry of the barren desert. Its black and windowless walls shimmered with reflected heat and something else.

So this was the end of her long journey, or maybe just the answer. The woman that had so long ago forgotten her name and yet had not aged a day since she was awoken would find her answers or her end here, but perhaps her end was her answer.

Zeal, the dark tower. It held the mysteries of one's own mind and other things, darker things. No one knew its exact origin, but many traveled the miles across the barren and parched land in an attempt to find it. None by the bravest, most needy, or strange creatures like herself made it this far.

She looked at the black doorway that gaped before her, ready to swallow her into its forbidding womb. Once she stepped within that door, there was no turning back. She would find a world of mysteries, shadows, and evil that she must confront to find the truth. If she could make it to the top, her questions would be answered.

Turning, she patted her guide on the head. The dusty colored cyote yipped at her touch and bounded off into the desert, leaving Yola alone to stare at the door. Slowly she placed one slippered foot in front of another and entered the first chamber.

When she turned to see if the door had closed behind her, she found only a blank stone wall the same black color as the outside had been. It was mercifully cool, and several benches made of the same material were set along the walls to rest on. A shallow depression in the floor near her held crisp, cool water that smelled faintly of rose petals. She knelt down and cupped her hands, taking a deep drought of the water as she scooped it to her face.

With a sudden yawn, she moved to one of the benches and lay down upon it. Her eyes closed and she was soon asleep. When she awoke much later, it was to the distinct impression that she was not alone.

Tsar stepped into the dark room and took in his surroundings. This seemed like as good a place as any to start, especially as he didn't exactly know where he was headed.
He briefly considered taking off his helmet and gasmask before rejecting it out of hand. He never would have done such a thing before, why should this place be any different.
The semi-darkness of the room did nothing to slow his inspection of it, in what little light there was his goggles shone the dark red of infra-vision. Sensors in his suit told him that the room was cool, not that it mattered to him, it could have been boiling and it wouldn't have mattered, his black body-armour suit was totally self-contained.
For the worlds safety as much as his.

The tower was broken.

She knew that if she knew nothing.

There was someone here.

Marren scurried about it the darkness, her pits of eyes moving lightly in a maneuver that was only instinctive. Her clawed hands grasped at the cracks of the ancient tower, and pulled at a root or a forgotten leaf.

People sought the tower...people died...the tower killed them.

She hurried.

Maybe it wasn't too late to save them...

The woman turned slowly, taking in the strange person that wore black. She couldn't make out their form well, not in this light.

She rose from her place, bowing deeply to whomever it was that approached. She spoke softly, her voice no more than a whisper, "Greetings."

Tsar stopped and looked at the woman, his auditory sensors magnifying the whisper so his degenerating ears could hear what was being said. He slowly flipped open a small keypad at his wrist and pressed a button, switching his infra-vision to the normal light spectrum, he pressed a second button, increasing the light intake, allowing him to see the woman clearly.
He stared at the woman, everything told him that she was harmless, she wasn't partuicularly imposing, he didn't recognize any weapons on her person, but it might be a trick. He had beeen tricked before.
"Greetings," he said, inclining his head, "My name is Tsar."

The woman righted herself, staring at him with amazingly blue eyes. She almost seemed to look right through the suit to him, "I am... I truly have no name. They have been calling me the nameless one where I tread."

Tsar didn't like the way the white haired woman looked at him, then he almost chuckled, he doubted very much that she would stay quite so calm if she could see the real him. Besides, X-ray vision was rediculous, wasn't it?
"Is that what I should call you?"
Tsar was unconciously moving his fingers and rightt hand.

The tower was moving.

Marren's quick fingers felt the trembling of the stones as their ancient magic raged beneath. Down one staircase and another she trumbled, and knew that she would be too late to stop the first onslaught.

She felt the light change around her.

She hoped to gods that the intrudors were prepared.

"Call me whatever you wish. Names do not belong to ones such as myself."

She turned, looking towards the dark door that led further inwards. It was too late to turn back now, the only way to go was forwards.

"This path...there are many dangers. Perhaps it would be wise to travel in numbers." She turned again, glancing at Tsar with liquid grey eyes. They shifted as she continued to look at him, verging on crimson.

Had Tsar not been wearing his mask the woman could have seen him roll his eyes and snort in frustration. As it was he simply gestured "after you".

The woman turned from him again. She stepped into the shadowy staircase, "Patience is a virtue my friend."

Tsar checked the charge on his taser before following the woman. It was a little low, he increased his hand movement, feeling the subtle resistence in each of the joints. It was a comforting sort of resistence.
In each joint there was a small gizmo, not even Tsar knew exactly how this suit worked, that gizmo could do two things: it could either take the energy he exerted on them and store them in the battery on his back, which powered his suit and charged his gun, or it could take some of that power and move the joint on its own, making Tsar capable of feats of inhuman strength. Which came in handy in Tsar's condition.
Tsar followed the woman up the stairs.
