Chaos and devestation came like a thief in the night, bodies strewn about like broken dolls. Aelicia couldn't block them from her mind. Overwhelmed, she fell to her knees onto the dusty earth and cried.

Tai rubbed his head against hers and placed his large paw upon her shoulder with love and concern." They fought with valor and pride, all was not lost. They passed this life with honor, the God and Goddess will look favorably upon their souls."

His unspoken words were clear and strong in her mind, a comfort to her broken heart. She had been through too much for too long and crumbled beneath the weight of her woes, but she had the bobcat by her side with his loyalty and love. She picked herself up, wiped the tears from her face and searched for clothing and provisions for the journey. She wrapped what she could in her gown and tied what she could into bundles from cloth. Salted meat, dried fruits, nuts, medicinal herbs and whatever she could find for sustenance.

"As she walked along she found a sparkling jewel partly buried in the earth and picked it up.It was a beautiful ring with a pale blue colored stone. she slipped it on her finger and continued on into the forest and the night, the moon and stars lighting the way.

The scent of pine was one Aelicia had delighted in when she first came to this realm. In her world there were similar trees but none quite like these.

She came to the clearing where Varren, Nightstar and Windstorm waited anxiously. Without a word she loaded up the dragons and mounted Nightstar. Too filled with grief to look back at Tai, she waited in silence for Varren to say the word and they would be off. Tai sat very still and spoke his farewell. " You will be safer now Aelicia. With mighty wings and winds you will fly. With the crusader by your side I have faith that he will protect and honor you as I would . Until our paths lead us back together, I will travel swiftly and find you."

Time stood still in the vast dark forest as Aelicia caught the glow of deep green eyes fading in the distance. She wondered of her father's wellbeing, she wondered of Tai's fate alone on his journey. Covering her face with her hands she wept with abandon, releasing all the fear and sorrow she had held inside.

"Come milady, we must be off," Varren said as he nudged Wind Storm into the air. Night Star followed easily, obviously taking her time for the lady's sake. Eventually, they were off, moving slowly at first, giving Aelicia a chance to get used to the feeling of flying such a grand beast.

They eventually picked up speed, whipping across vast open plains, deep forests, rolling hills and small mountains. Smoke rose up on the horizon every now and then, but never enough to be of concern, in fact, by the time they reached the origin, it would often turn out to be nothing more than a stove. Small villages and bigs cities were something that they avoided. The young civlizations of these lands hadn't seen dragon riders in many centuries, since the dragons out east were never used in a battle over any of this terrain.

At one point though, they had to fly over a village in order to avoid taking a few hours to fly around the tall mountains of Ennis Thestun. As they moved into the lower paeks that made up the pass of Foruum, the villagers of the area fled for cover, some of them even firing random shots from crossbows. None of them even fluttered close and the dragons just continued on their merry way. Varren often looked back to see how the lady was doing and many a time she looked as if she was going to be sick, but as the journey went on, she appeared to be having a bit of fun.

As the sun began to fade, noticably for they had finally moved beyond the thick cloudcover the shrouded the ancient battlefields of the Festin Moor, the heat dropped greatly. Bith of the riders began to shiver as they pushed onward hard and fast. But this was too great a drop to be attributed to the slow disappearence of the sun. No, this was a sign of the changing season. They had reached the north and they were flying directly into a hard, highland winter. Soon they would be in Forsenthia

Some shivering hours later, the lights of the mountainside city of Laistus could be spotted on the horizon. Varren gave Wind Storm a good pat on the neck and congradulated him on finding the place so easily. The dragon scoffed at that and declared that he had been here many times before. The bright torches and even brighter fires lit their way down into the city, which was shrouded in evergreen trees. The wind was picking up, the snow was beginning to fall and the sun was long gone. Varren was frozen as they came in for a landing and he turned around to look at the lady expecting her to be passing out. And yet, she looked better than he did. She lived in a climate sch as this and he had spent his whole life fighting to control a sunny desert.

The dragons hit the ground hard, completely worn out and at the site of the riders and their mounts, many elves, be they soldiers or clerics, rushed over to them.

The weary dragons and tired riders struggled to get back to their feet as the tall, fair skinned elves ran up to them. Decked out in thick fur for warmth, they looked much more intimidating than the stories had told of them, but Varren was not in the right mind to be intimidated or anything for that matter. The elves threw a big cloak around each Varren and the Lady Aelicia and some others escorted the dragons slowly into a great, open building nearby. There was a great amount of squacking comign from inside and Varren could only guess that they were housing Gryphons there.

With the blanket wrapped tightly around him for warmth, Varren looked about at his surroundings. Great, cold stone towers stretched up above their heads and there were towers below them too, further down on the cliff city. Fire was everywhere, but always in a controlled fashion. Lanterns, hearths, torches ad the like lit the deepening night and gave off a bit of warmth as the snow came down in ever increasing thickness. One of the elves ushered them towards a great door which flung open and out poured several well armed and cleanly armoured soldiers, each with furs hanging onto the silvery metal to provide warmth that the armour could not. Behind them walked an even taller elf who stode directly up to the pair of them.

"Welcome," he declared as he embraced them both. "My name is High Lord Les Mondeen and this is the great city of Laistus, capital of Forsenthia. You have had a trying journey from the south, please, join me inside." With that he turned and marched back inside. Still shivering, Varren marched in as well.

Snow fell silently, glistening beneath the light of the silver moon. Aelicia was grateful for the warmth of the beautiful fur cloak and bowed her head to the handsome High Lord. He took her arm in his and led her inside. Wide-eyed with wonder, she marveled at the towering pines that grew inside the building. Upon the walls hung lush purple colored vines. The support beams and columns were dark wood, deeply carved. A majestic and truly magical place to be sure. The great hall seemed to go on forever. They walked across the smooth marble floor, listening intently to the lyrical voice of the High Lord.

"You've come a long ways," the elf lord said as he sat them all down around a table. He clapped his hands and had some food brought in. "We've been expecting your arrival for some time."

"Expecting?" Varren inquired quickly through bites of delicious meats and stews. "Why in the world were you expecting us?"

"It is the hour of darkness, my friend," the elf lord responded deeply. "The Zards are on the move and we are no longer in a postion to counter them. Just as was prophesized."

"Prophesized?" Varren spat out. "Oh no, I heard enough about those before we marched into the east. They all turned out to be false."

"They were not false," the lord responded, "it was simply not the right time for the prophecy to come true. You see, the prophecy you speak of came true long ago. The Holy City was retaken many ages ago, and the current loss of the city has nothing to do with it. Your priests misread the doctrines and sent you on a foolish mission."

"Tell me something I don't know," Varren said through a gulp of beer. "Listen, I don't know what you're talking about, but I think you have the wrong bunch. I was trying to get this girl back home and figured that you elves, being as kind and gentle as you are, would be a good place to start searching for her home, from which she was kidnapped."

The elf lord leaned across the table and looked Varren in the eye, studying him for a moment. "The dragons spoke to you briefly of the Great War. I will tell you the whole story and then you will understand."

"How would you know what happened?"

"I was there."

Completely enchanted, Aelicia held on to every word the elf spoke. Other elves entered the room eager to meet the human visitors. She stared at their clothing, their mannerism, and listened intently to their voices. One of the elf maidens promised to show her the solarium later which she so looked forward to.

Void using magic traveled to the small town of Redstorm. Just outside of town was a small house hidden among the trees.

He knocked on the door, and waited. Void knocked again, he heard footsteps.

The owner open the door, upon seeing Void he thought about close the door.

Void came in and closed the door behind him.

"you should not have come"

"I had to come" Void said.

"and you had to interfere"

"and you have not?" Void respond

"you think these two will change things"

"I'm not here to discuss my actions, you know why I'm here" Void said

"yes, that I do"

"All those centuries ago," the elf lord continued, "when the war first broke out, we thought it was just a bunch of barbarians from the north. They wouldn't pose much threat to us, but we were very wrong. They poured over the land as a very organized force made up of very powerful Zard warriors. Soon we were losing, but couldn't understand why or how. There was something else behind the conflict. The Zards had been peaceful for as long as the world existed and then suddenly and without any warning they attacked. By uniting all the peoples of this land, we were able to drive the enemy back, but the pair who did this, male and female elves from this very city, were killed during the final stages of the war. It was prophesized on their deathbeds that they would rise again to unite the people and fight the enemy when they returned for another war... but most of all, it is said that they would find out what drives the Zards mad."

"So wait," Varren said calmly, trying to maintain his composure, and his sanity in the face of such strange accusations, "are you saying that we are your prophesized saviors?"

"Yes, that is what we believe," the Elf Lord said calmly. "Soon the world will find itself thrown into a great war, and only the two of you could ever succeed in stoppign them this time."

"This is crazy," Varren said as he stood up from the table.

"Is it so much more crazy than the beliefs that drove you into the west, seeking to reclaim your lost holy sites?"

Varren stopped. He had to bring that up didn't he.

" What have you tow got to lose?"

"She has her life," Varren replied

"And you?"

"Nothing I haven't lost before."

{Void is just outside the the small town of Redstorm, talking to a man in his house}

Void wait, but the wizard said no more. The wizard did not move to get the item that Void was after.

After a long pause he said,

"You think these two are the ones from the prophesy"

"yes I do, now give me what I seek" Void said.

"I think not", said Firestorm

"what have you done?" Void asked

"two others have been chosen" Firestorm said.

"two others?" Void asked

"they didn't think you where right" Firestorm said

"that does not tell me want you have done" Void said

"they came last night and took it" Firestorm said.

Just great the elders had taken it. Void thought

"these other two, they are on there way to Laistus?" Void asked

"yes that is what the elders say" Firestorm said

Which means they could be anywhere. They may not even be heading to Laistus.

"The elders, where did the elders go?" Void asked.

"I have no knowledge of that, you should not interfere" Firestorm said.

"and what about the elders?" Void said.
