True, but I found X2 disappointing. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was a far cry from what I expected it to be. I'd rather have a good run a quality movies that follow the total complexity of the story rather than three, at least one of which could have been better, that only catch the briefest snapshot of what it truly is.
Although I must say that three is far better than none at all.
X-Men 3
The problem is those stories have been developed over 30 or 40 years and you can't cram all of that complexity in 6 or even 12 hours worth of movies. Movies have to stream line to tell a good story without getting lost in all the details. TV seems to be better at telling complex stories because they can take their time. I stopped regularly read X-men in the 90's so I know nothing about the Phoenix/Bishop/Age-of-Apocalypse storyline. Was it Jean Grey Phoenix or Rachael Summers Phoenix? I'm not a big fan of convoluted time travel stories but I thought Bishop was a good character. The question in making a movie is where do you start? how much do you include? where do you end? I was happy at the compromise the movies made. They could have started with just the original x-men but then we wouldn't have Wolverine, Storm and Nightcrawler. If they tried to include all the x-men they would probably fill an arena :p and then they wouldn't be able to tell a story.
I really liked X-2 my favorite moment "you're a god among insects and don't let anyone tell you otherwise." I thought it was true to Claremont's vision of the X-men.
you're making me want to start collecting again, I think claremont started writing again at some point then I would have a lot to catch up on... yeah, I better get back to studying

My favorite moment was at Bobby's house where they run away and look up to see the family contemptuously looking at them.
Jean was the Phoenix.

I did a long winded post about how happy I was with this movie but it didn't seem to post so you were all spared my gushing.
I think the movie was very true to the spirit of the comics I read in the 80s and 90s

I am looking forward to seeing it with my wife as we are both huge X-Men fans, but I agree, they should leave it a 3, lord knows we all know how hollywood can drag something out without giving it the proper attention.

I thought it was a good movie but needed some more work. It just seems to me they rushed through it to fast.

I wouldn't have any problem with more X-men movies. I just recently read one review article that mentioned that a "Magneto" prequel is in the works. But not yo put too fine of point on it, more X-men movies would mean more Halle Barry.
But seriously, all kidding aside, her role in X-Men III was a lot fuller than the previous two. Barry is a great actress, and it was a shame to see her parts in the earlier movies consisting of one liners about "Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?" ( There was a bit more to her role in the second movie, but it still was little better than "supporting role" material. I, for one, am glad she put her foot down for a a more developed role) At least in this move, she had air-time to expound a bit about the theme of the movie; choice, acceptance, tolerance.

Just so we got that cleared up.
Speaking of the beautiful and talented future Mrs. Boikat
[Q checks the box office on X-Men 3 and smiles] Still a chance that I might get to see Longshot, Forge and/or the Hellfire Club after all.
