I've been narrowing it down on my own before I ever saw this topic. I actually have two lists one for before 1996 and one for after it (prior to 1996 are all of the movies the AFI counted for their top 100 movies of all time but are ones of my own choice and rank, afterwords is my own working for the second century thus far)

So the first list is:

1) Forrest Gump

2) The Shawshank Redemption

3) On the Waterfront

4) 12 Angry Men

5) The Silence of the Lambs

6) Rocky

7) Psycho

8) Jurassic Park

9) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

10) Casablanca

1) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (They were made and shot as if a single movie, so for simplicity's sake I'll just combine them here)

2) Brokeback Mountain

3) Hotel Rwanda

4) Ray

5) Memoirs of a Geisha

6) Finding Neverland

7) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

8) Matrix, The

9) Finding Nemo

10) The Incredibles

I'll see how I can combine these into a single list, but that'll be most difficult.

I tend to like older movies like Ben Hur and Cleopatra the best, despite the cheesiness of the acting and other things. I guess I'm just old school to the heart

Then I move onto Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and other old school action/sci fi

Then I move onto Murasaki films (Mononoke Hime!!)

And then...The list keeps growing :)

Without a doubt my two favorites are "Forrest Gump" and "the Shawshank Redemption". After that comes "Return of the King". After that... I still need more time to assimilate the two groups.

My favorites, not ones I think are the best

Postby Asp » Tue Apr 04, 2006 11:06 am

1. Zardoz - Love the cinematography and the music, the story is great although the telling is flawed, there are definitely hokey parts in it, but overall I still love this movie. I've always wanted the opening music, Beethoven's 7th, 3rd movement (?) performed on pipe organ with a chorus, but have never been able to find it.

2. Mary Poppins - A magical film that I loved as a child and the magic remains alive for me to this day. Great performances by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, wonderful mixture of animation and live action, great songs and lots of fun. What's not to love. "Feed The Birds" still moves me every time I hear it.

3. A Clockwork Orange - A Kubrick masterpiece. Once again fantastic cinematography, fantastic performances, great story and wonderful music. Walter/Wendy Carlos did a great job on the soundtrack.

The rest on my list are ordered from memory not necessarily preference.

4. Brazil - A brilliant movie that's funny and mind numbingly sad at he same time.

5. Bagdad Cafe - Another wonderful film that reminds me of the strength of the human spirit. Jack Palance is a real kick in this one.

6. 2001: A Space Odyssey - The seminal space movie. Fantastic story, great special effects, stark realism, unbelievable for it's time. I know it pales in comparison to today's films, but at the time it came out it was the pinnacle of science fiction films.

7. Toy Story - An absolute delight with great characters, a fun story, wonderful action and lots of laughs.

8. American Beauty - A near perfect film in all aspects. I am blown away by it's perfection.

9. Ground Hog Day - I love the repeated time sequence in this movie. I also like the story of redemption and discovery. This is one of my favorite Bill Murray films and Andie MacDowell is great in it as well

10. Get Shorty - A wonderful story presented by wonderful actors. Fantastic fun.

My favourite movie is “A walk to remember” directed by Adam Shankman, because it is romantic and feels about true love. Also Mandy Moore shows us she can act as well as sing.
