what is a fender chain ?

They are the chains that hold fenders (the cushion type deal that protects boats from hitting the dock) to the ship. Fender Chains are also what you call the chains that used to be stretched across locks to prevent ships from accidentally running into the lock gates and cause flooding. They were mainly discontinued due to the precision of control offered by the electric mules that guide ships through large lock systems such as the Panama Canal and make the chains redundant. Baby! When you be going as fast as we do, you need to chain your fenders down! Otherwise they fly right off the car!
