I forgot 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Robert Heinlien. He would make spot 3 on my sci-fi list bumping everyone else down one.

The books I mostly read is the legend of Drizzt series by R.A Salvatore. After that it is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. Those 2 are my favorite series but I read any Dragon Lance book with Raistlin in it. I also Recommend The Doom Brigade, by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (they wrote the war of the lance series).

Not in any particular order. These are my favorites at the moment but not necessarily what I would call canon. A canon list would have to include certain authors that some others have mentioned (Zelazny, Moorcock, Lewis) and some surprisingly absent (Bradbury, Lovecraft, C.J. Cherryh).

The Face in the Abyss by A.E. Merritt (if you like the Indiana Jones movies don't pass this up in a used bookstore--or on amazon)
