Star Wars vs. Childhood's End

Postby Trekkie » Thu Mar 09, 2006 8:42 pm

I'm writing a paper on Star Wars and Childhood's End. Anyways, I need help concerning whether Star Wars and Childhood's End are both equally science fiction? Are their ideological premises underlieing their generic similarity, or are their ideological differences reflected in their disparate generic constructions?

One thing that is important to think about when working on this is that Star Wars takes place in space, but is not really Science Fiction. It's more of a fantasy epic than SciFi, IMO. It's been awhile since I last read Childhood's End, so I don't have anything to say about it yet.

Yeah. It's kind of like Alien, in this way. Alien is really a horror movie, although is set in space and has sci-fi elements to it. It's still horror, though. Star Wars, while being set in space and having sci-fi elements, is actually still fantasy. Aldan's right.

I'm sorry to say that I've never read Childhood's End.
