Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

A beautiful, subtle and moving story told with stunning characterisation. Kay is a master and Tigana is his best. Quite simply one of the finest books I've ever read.
'There's a vampire, dad. It's trying to get me.'
'I know, son,' he said softly. 'I saw it.'
'You saw it?'
'Yeah. I broke its bloody neck. I won't have no vampires in my house.'

Tiganna remains THE book I suggest THE most for people to read. For people that read tolkein but think most of the genre is fluff I tell them to read Tiganna. If people don't want to read 12 volume epics and are looking for the best one-off, I suggest Tiganna. This book captivated me in a way no other fantasy book has. I still consider LOTR the best but Tiganna touched me in a completely different way. I felt so deeply pulled in an emotionally invested in Tiganna. . .
yeah, I liked it.
