Sci Fi Channel talks Outer Limits |
|
by
The Master, Thursday, August 24, 2000 |
|
The Sci-Fi Channel is discussing the possibility of airing new episodes of The Outer Limits with MGM TV Entertainment, according to Scifi.com. The Outer Limits is scheduled to end first run Showtime episodes on September 3, 2000. The Sci-Fi channel currently airs reruns, which are also available in syndication. Picking up the show would continue Sci-Fi's successful strategy of grabbing up and breathing new life into well known but otherwise declining series that fit its market niche. In related news, the two hour finale for Showtime's original series on September 3 will be preceded by an eight episode marathon of reruns starting at 2 p.m. (Note: episodes are shot with 15 minute commercial allowances to fit 1 hour syndication schedules). The star studded finale, "Final Appeal", is about a time traveler who is sentenced to death for violating laws against technology. The finale stars: Charlton Heston, Amanda Plummer, Cicely Tyson, Swoosie Kurtz, Kelly McGillis, Robert Loggia, Wallace Langham, Michael Moriarty and Hal Holbrook will appear. |

The Plant Part II available for download |
|
by
The Master, Wednesday, August 23, 2000 |
|
Stephen King's next installment of The Plant is now available for download from the official SK website. An update from July 31 indicates that, so far, payment rates have been quite good, over 76%, on installment one. King is now working on installment three, due in late September. This bodes well for the author's "grand experiment" to cut out the middleman and offer stories directly to the public. It remains to be seen if the chapter-by-chapter, pay as you go, approach will hold fans' attention over the long term. |

Finally, Jamie Lee Curtis is contractually obliged to do at least a cameo, but not the entire film. So, we'll see what happens." |

Battlestar Galactica New Trailer |
|
by
The Master, Saturday, August 12, 2000 |
A new teaser trailer has been released to compete with the one Richard Hatch has been showing at cons for over a year. Despite his efforts Hatch has been unable to acquire legal rights to the show, and this trailer appears to be from Glen Larson. With digital effects from No Prisoners (Wing Commander), the trailer features the infamous voice over opening as the camera flys through a solar system to a planet with various Egyptian style monuments. Vipers and the Battlestar Atlantis come flying out of the ruins, and then a text logo being crossed by a Cylon eye cuts in, soon to be replaced with a "Launching Christmas of 2000" logo and a Cylon saying "By your Command Imperious Leader".
It rumored that Todd Moyer may direct the new movie, but the release date is highly unlikely for a movie not yet financed or in production.

Star Wars Ep. 2 Spoilers? |
|
by
The Master, Saturday, August 12, 2000 |
E! Online is reporting a series of possible Episode II spoilers. Star Wars rumors this early are always suspect, but you've been warned...
- The movie is purported going to be a war movie with a darker tone a la Empire Strikes Back. The much discussed galactic romance of Queen Amidala and Anakin may end up being nothing more than a side story.
- The clone wars are not only in, but the movie supposedly reveals that the Empire's army of Stormtroopers from the first Star Wars are really all clones.
- The clone wars are not only in, but the movie supposedly reveals that the Empire's army of Stormtroopers from the first Star Wars are really all clones.
- More clone rumors: Obi-Wan is also a clone, the first clone to be exact, meaning Ben Kenobi (from ep4) is not the same person.
- Lucas tries to soften the turning of Anakin to the Dark Side at the end of the movie: "Anakin goes bad because he wants to be a hero and save the life of someone very, very close to him"
- New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison will play Jango Fett, the bounty-hunter father of Boba Fett. Australian Daniel Logan will be the young Boba.

Aaliyah Bites into Queen of the Damned |
|
by
The Master, Thursday, August 10, 2000 |
Singer-actress Aaliyah is preparing to play the title lead in the movie adaption of Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned. Filming will begin in Australia this September.
"I play Akasha, who is the queen and the first, original vampire. That's me. It's a good part. I've been working with my coach. I work with him all the time, and I've been working extra hard to prepare for this and get comfortable with what she's all about so I can do it the right way."
She went on to add, "I'm a night person, so I guess you could say I kind of have [the part] in me anyway. I'm a bit of a vampire for real. I like the dark. I like the night. So I really don't have to take [preparation] to [the extreme of] sleeping in coffins. Other than that, I'm just preparing for it the normal way. It's a fun role, because I've always loved vampires since I was a little girl, so the chance to get to be one is amazing."
