On the subject of Dumbledor's sexuality, my personal belief is, from a strictly literary perspective, if a detail is not important enough to include within a given text, it is not very relevant to the text (an exception to this would be if the detail is meant to be introduced at a later point in tim...

I think Mr_D should be. He's got my vote. Started it, organized it, all that. Sounds like a man to lead.

Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about The Lion King or West Side Story , or do those, opting for different titles, pass your test of differentiation? (I'm not even sure if that last word's the right one to use, but you get my meaning) I thought the works you referenced were done quite well an...

Ole Billy Shakespeare did an excellent job in setting up the nuances. He doesn't need the help of modern day writers. Actually, in the two cases I cited, they were directorial and acting interpretations, not writing ones. Branagh's Hamlet, actually, is fully unabridged in every sense of the word......

Shakespeare's works are filled with political and social commentary on his times. They don't require interpretation. Actually, I must disagree here. Will the new Beowulf film get some people to read the original work? Perhaps, but how many of them will be looking for a sexy seductress? That's not just a "reimagining", that's plain "rewriting". If they haven't read Beowulf before seeing the movie, then they'll read it when they get in High Schoo...

Two people watching the movie only, can discuss only their attitude and beliefs towards the movie, not the text…. I do not mean that newer renditions should replace the older texts at all. They, I feel, should be viewed / studied / discussed in conjunction with the old, and through discussing how o...

You all seem to be grossly misunderstanding what I meant. Understand, I do not support censorship in any way. I can quote large sections from the court rulings in Schenk v United States (1919), Whitney v California (1927), Brandenburg v Ohio (1969), Tinker v Des Moines (1969) and US v Playboy (2000)...

And what I talk about goes much further than just Beowulf , too. Look at things like Wicked , "Avenue Q" , The Dark Tower series, the Frankenstein trilogy, Ulysses , Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead , The Phantom , The Penelopiad , Cold Mounain , The Once and Future King , The Mists of Avalon ,...
