Earth's Children

Post by RHFay »

Hello all!

Here's yet another early gem of mine. This one is dated 1994. This dates to a time had often had trouble writing long poems. I would get an idea, and not be able to develop it past a few lines. This became an easier skill over time. However, I think this still works as a short piece.

"Earth's Children"

For each their own place
Snuggled against mother's bosom.
Feel Gaea's warm caress,
Hear her soothing lullaby:
"You are my children,
You are my Life.
Hush, rest now.
You've returned
Home."

This one could have many meanings, depending upon how you interpret it. I just realized that, with a little tweaking, it could even be a "horror" or "macabre" poem (reclined instead of snuggled, cool caress instead of warm caress, droning lullaby instead of soothing lullaby). Hmm...an interesting idea.

Cheers!
"I'm going to do what the warriors of old did. I'm going to recite poetry!" Andrew of Armar.

Yes I agree with your discovery after the poem. Upon reading this I was a little chilled, it sounds like a poem that would read at a wake or something. Just a random thought.

Here. let's try it with the changes and see what happens:

"Earth's Children"

For each their own place
Reclined against mother's bosom.
Feel Gaea's cool caress,
Hear her droning lullaby:
"You are my children,
You are my Life.
Hush, rest now.
You've returned
Home."

Yes, definitely a grave poem. Certainly something about the grave in there. A "dust to dust" sort of feel.
