Malaware Message

Post by Ariel »

Earlier this morning I went to the 'Books And Author' topic. When I clicked on the "Revenge Of The Elves" thread, I got a message saying something like "increased traffic of malaware are blocking your query".

Just went now and it's fine.

That's quite strange indeed. Did it look like some ad? Once in a while an interstitial or something else I don't sign up to allow here slips by and I have to go change settings on my advertising panel.

You know just as a precaution I would run Adaware or some other spyware/adware scanner on your PC.

Well what do you know, I come to the SV site {home page}, and a message pops up about "malaware", and before the page is fully loaded, it starts to load a page from another site. I closed the message box. the page that loads tells me about malaware, and tells me to download some software...

I don't think so....not download that...

Did a scan and find a Trojan

I got the same redirect today. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to track it.

It is super critical that if you this happens you try to note what ad is on the top of the page. That is the only place this could be coming from and I can't weed it out and complain about it to the ad company until I know what it is.

I may have located the rogue ad and have disabled it. Unfortunately it can take several hours for it to actually be removed from rotation. I hope this does it!

That would explain why after cycling through the ads for four hours with SnagIt I didn't run into it.

Some sort of "virus warning" thhing is popping up now, and tries to install some sort of virus protection (Yeah, right!). It's like trying to step on a hyperactive roach when you try to close it out.
