The Feast of St. Stephen's. So that's it.

I wouldn't consider it a public holiday here

I know that here in the Untied State (and yes, I meant to spell it that way), we have some holidays that are officially listed and even celebrated (for school, for instance) but aren't fully embraced. Take Columbus Day, for instance... please, take it... it really is the one holiday that is celebrated here in the Untied States that doesn't really say anything to me.

Okay, yes, it's the day that we celebrate how Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus) was able to finally work Ferdinand and Isabella, the Spanish monarchs, into backing his attempt to sail around the globe... of course, at the time, they weren't sure that the planet WAS a globe, but enough of that... The problem that I suppose that most of the people here in the New World, as it was called, have with celebrating it is that it's not about an occasion, but instead covers quite a bit of time... from when he got the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria from the monarchs, was able to outfit them and get them manned (a tough task, considering what he was attempting) and then sail the very long distance across the Atlantic Ocean to finally reach what he thought would be "India". Here in the States not always as United as they should be, we are very strongly of English descent, historically and governmentally, and the Spanish, whom Chris was representing (though I think he was Italian), were our enemies or at best a hostile neighbor, so celebrating one of "their" accomplishments can tend to stick in a craw. It'd be like for us to celebrate, oh, the British marching through Washington DC during the War of 1812, which we barely even acknowledge in school history classes, usually. In any case, it usually is just treated as a day off, sort of like Boxing Day is in GBR. Is there more to it than that? Yes. However, the extra meaning of the holiday is generally ignored here, I'm sorry to say. We all seem to have our blind spots, no matter where in the world we may live...

I personally do not see the point in Columbus Day either. Another one(please do not judge me by this)is Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. I feel that if we celebrate his birthday then we should celebrate George Washingtons or someone of the likes birthday. If we don't I say we get rid of it. (This in no way echos my view on other races or the sort. It is a personal opinion in which i have had a lot of time to think about it.)

Actually, Talon, we do celebrate Washington's Birthday. It's called President's Day and it's in February. It's a concatenation of Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays, since they were a week apart.

*from the dark corner emerges a thin and gawky looking guy with nervous eyes and a thrashed punk guitar*

"In the car, I just can't wait...
To pick you up on our very first date
Is it cool if I hold your hand?
Is it wrong if I think it's lame to dance?
Do you like my stupid hair?
Would you guess that I didn't know what to wear?
I'm just scared of what you think.
You make me nervous so I really can't eat

Let's go... don't wait... this night's almost over
Honest... let's make... this night last forever
Forever,Forever and ever... let's make this last forever
Forever, and ever... let's make this last forever

When you smile, I melt inside
I'm not worthy for a minute of your time
I really wish it was only me and you
I'm jealous of everybody in the room
Please don't look at me with those eyes
Please don't hint that your capable of lies
I dread the thought of our very first kiss
A target that I'm probably gonna miss

Let's go... don't wait... this night's almost over
Honest... let's make... this night last forever
Forever,Forever and ever... lets make this last forever
Forever, and ever... let's make this last forever

Let's go... don't wait... this night's almost over
Honest... let's make... this night last forever
Forever,Forever and ever... let's make this last forever
Forever, and ever... let's make this last forever

Forever,Forever and ever... let's make this last forever
Forever, and ever... let's make this last forever"

*the thin guy now looks a bit bummed and begins with...*

"It's hard to wake up
When the shades have been pulled shut
This house is haunted
It's so pathetic
It makes no sense at all.
I'm ripe with things to say
The words rot and fall away.
If a stupid poem could fix this home
I'd read it every day.

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost.
It's not right

Their anger hurts my ears
Been running strong for seven years
Rather than fix the problems, they never solve them
It makes no sense at all
I see them every day
We get along so why can't they?
If this is what he wants and this is what
she wants
Then why is there so much pain?

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost
It's not right

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost
It's not right"

*the gawky guy with the punk guitar starts playing, then gets distracted by a girl walking by. After several minutes, he starts playing a different song*

"I took her out it was a Friday night
I wore cologne to get the feeling right
We started making out and she took off my pants
But then I turned on the TV

And that's about the time that she walked away from me
Nobody likes you when you're twenty-three
And are still more amused by my TV shows
What the hell is ADD?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

Then later on, on the drive home
I called her mom from a pay phone
I said I was the cops
And your husband's in jail
This state looks down on sodomy

And that's about the time that *beep* hung up on me
Nobody likes you when you're twenty-three
And are still more amused by prank phone calls
What the hell is caller ID?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

And that's about the time she walked away from me
Nobody likes you when you're twenty-three
And you still act like you're in Freshman year
What the hell is wrong with me?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

That's about the time she broke up with me
No one should take themselves so seriously
With many years ahead to fall in line
Why would you wish that on me?
I never want to act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

What's my age again?"

blink-182 what's my age again, just for anthentar
